I started to watch 24h - I know, I'm not a first mover here... was a birthday present (yes, you missed my birthday ;).

Shocking: the show gives some price-points for violent crimes:
- blowing up a passenger plane with 200+ passengers: 1 Mio USD
- kidnapping (& potentially killing) of 2 persons: 20 K USD

Note: cheating or trying to re-negotiate the price after a done job can result in immediate uninformal death penalty.

b-ball rotes rathaus in berlin

Today we had a b-ball session at the rote rathaus... was great fun and we have been proud to beat some local kids twice in a row - and they looked really pro and dangerous :). Thank's to everybody who participated (folks from imedo, absolventa, misterspex, iven&hillmann, lakattack)

The location in front of the rote rathaus is really amazing. we play from time to time more ore less sponanously. I twitter playdates, so subbscribe my feed (http://twitter.com/lak) if you want to be informed.

chess-boxing

yesterday I was guest to the chess-boxing world championship in berlin.
chess-boxing is a new sport combining chess and boxing - yepp, no kidding. sounds strange and like a joke but it really works and is exciting. a match is 11 rounds and the combatants play alternating a round of chess (4 min) and a boxing round (2 min). the trick is to play chess while full of adrenaline...

On yesterdays event in the tape in berlin 2 matches have been won during a chess round and one in the bosing round. the new (and first) champion is a german, frank stoldt (congrats!).

Together with Kolja I recently invested in mymuesli. the investment was released a few days ago. coverage see foerderland, deutsche-startups, blognation or mymuesli blog. also there is a post and some videos at gruenderszene.

mymuesli sells customized muesli online. the team executed this simple idea very well. I invested for several reasons - being close to the mass customized space and the size of the opportunity when executed right being two of them. but most importantly due to the excellent team - although very young the founders already have some entrepreneurial track record (video renting). on a very small scale, but neverthelless, I think the lessons one can learn even from small ventures are invaluable when starting new companies.

Reisebericht & Schmitz (German)

Zunächst Reisebericht: Schweden ist absolut super, tolles Wetter = Sonne aber nicht zu heiss. Sehr entspannend. Die Schweden sind sehr nett aber achtung, im ggs. zu den Holländern sprechen sie kein Deutsch! Kleiner Scherz, haha... sie sprechen in der Regel leider auch kein englisch, zumindest nicht da, wo ich bin. Bastad, ein kleiner Küstenort ideal für Urlaub mit Familie. Sehr beschaulich. Ich habe mal ein paar Bilder hochgeflickert (lakattack) es ist hier tatsächlich so, wie es darauf aussieht. Heute habe ich auf meiner Bergetappe (=Radfahren) leider meine Kamera nicht mitgenommen, sonst hätte ich mich noch mehr als begnadeter Tierfotograf profiliert und noch diverse Kuh-Sorten, Schaafe, Pferde, Termiten, Waldameisen, Hunde etc. abgelichtet. So wie hier stelle ich es mir in Marlene Haushofers 'Die Wand' vor.

Neben Radfahren & Schwimmen & Spa & Lesen lerne ich vor allem Golf und habe einen absolut coolen Pro (Ulf, Äpplegarden Golfplatz). Das er nur gebrochen englisch spricht hilft, denn so konzentriert er sich in seinen Ausführungen auf das absolut wesentlichste... m.E. mit großem Erfolg, ich habe heute einen Ball 150 m weit (und das auch noch recht geradeaus) 'gedrived'. Yeah! Ausserdem auch mit dem 8ter Eisen erste Erfolge gehabt... wenn man den Ball zu ersten mal richtig trifft, ist das schon ein echt cooles Gefühl. An alle nicht Golfer: den Ball zu treffen ist gar nicht so leicht... das rumgehoppel echt frustrierend. Zurück zum Pro, sein wichtigster Hinweis: Relax! Versuche nicht den Ball zu treffen, sondern halte einfach den Schwung. Am besten an etwas anderes denken. Ein echt guter Tip, denn wie bei den meisten Sportarten sind die Bewegungsabläufe ehe viel zu komplex um sie wirklich bewusst zu steuern... ferner ist der pro wichtig um einen nach und nach auf die gravierendsten Haltungsschäden aufmerksam zu machen... cool!

Zur Lektüre, also, ich bin ein wenig entsetzt ob dem, was mir der Slotti da empfohlen hat. Schmitz scheint ein echter Provokateur der Philo Szene zu sein. Seine Spezialität: sich mit Belanglosigkeiten Auseinanderzusetzen und willkürliche Systeme aufzustellen. Soentgen, dessen Werk (nicht Buch, Werk ;) über Schmitz ich lese bewundert diesen übrigens auf rührende Art und Weise, in einer Fußnote heitßt es z.B.: "Schmitz ist nicht nur ein Brillianter Theoretiker, sondern auch ein guter Beobachter".

Hmmmm. Schmitz beobachtet unter anderem so Dinge wie Gefühlsräume und seine brilliante Theorie macht Gefühle nicht an Perosnen sondern an orten fest. Gefühle existieren also unabhängig von Personen. Hut ab. Naja, immerhin hat Schmitzes Gesamtwerk schon mehrere Tausend Seiten und nach Söntgens Schätzung 8 mio. Worte...

Schmitz - Ein echter Philosoph oder am Ende doch Gesiteswissenschaftler?
Übrigens nicht bei xing zu finden...

Wie auch immer, trotzdem eine kurzweilige Leserei, da es mal was völlig anderes ist und trotz diverser Absurditäten an der einen oder anderen Stelle zum Denken anregt (z.B. über Körpergefühl oder metagedanken über die Philosophie. Oder der Satz auf Seite 83: "Sicher hat sich das Wohnen vor allem durch den Fernseher verändert; das hat Günter Anders gezeigt" - wow, das nenne ich mal praktische Philosophie - wozu noch Lieb-Seele, freier Willen oder Sinn des Lebens, wenn es doch auch viel Handfester geht... mal schauen, ob die Philosophenzunft auch Erkenntnisse aus z.B. der Coke-Zero Markteinführung in Europa entsprechend ableiten kann... ;). Ausserdem ist meine Allgemeinbildung jetzt weiter gestiegen. Mal sehen, ob ich damit auf der nächsten Party junge Mädchen beeindrucken kann ("Und was Studierst Du?" "Philosophie im 17ten Semester. Mein Vater wollte mich zu BWL zwingen, aber ich habe mich von meiner Familie losgesagt und unseren Cayenne mit seinem 7er Eisen zerdeppert. Und Du, bist Du auch im StudiVZ?").

So weit von der Urlaubsfront, ich bin schon total erholt... :)

Me writing this entry (not in the pic for practical reasons....)

I'm on holidays this week and next (6th-19th Aug) and then in NYC on the 20th to 26th.

This week I'm in Sweden. In Bastad and then in Stockholm on Saturday. Bastad is a small coastal town in southern Sweden, more or less between Malmö and Göteborg. I'm relaxing here, reading, a little bit golf, etc. Coming week I will do some more classical beach holiday - probably in Turkey (Camyuva).

Oh, do not send me e-mail while I'm on holidays, they will be received by Constanze and not by myself. If you need to contact me, you can do it via one of the social net's I'm member of (but some of them I check semi-regularly...).

So, currently I'm reading "Die verdeckte Wirklichkeit" by Jens Soentgen. It is an introduction to a philosophical richtung called 'Neue Phänomenologie' by Hermann Schmitz. I'm not sure if I already understand what is going on. I started to read a book by Schmitz a couple of weeks ago and it's a bit verwirrend, so I'm happy that I also bought the Soentgen introduction.

I found the book by the way asking Solterdijk what he would recommend as a reading re philosophy. Jozsef from blue corporate finance invited Sloterdijk as a guest-reader for an small entrepreneurs summit he blueCF organized a few weeks ago. Not sure if Sloterdijk is cool, but he is a renowned german philosopher or at least represents philosophy in Germany and is well known in the Media Landschaft. Matthias Spiess commented sceptical about him, so I'm alerted (Matthias has som philo background as well, plus a good track record with his views...).

However, looking forward to learn more about the neue Phänomenologie... (so far I'v got from the porimary Schmitz reading that he uses a framework of everything being 'situationen', 'programme' and 'probleme'. I made a sense out of it translating 'probleme' into 'goals/ ziele'. With that it makes sense. You can watch yourself or others... in any situation you follow some program based on explicit or implicit goals you have...).

Hi, a nice little website I stumbeld upon:

It sees they are pretty fresh, here a few things they already accomplished...:
• Physik-Nobelpreisträger Prof. Theodor W. Hänsch weiter in Deutschland forschen kann. Er hatte für die Zeit nach seiner Emeritierung attraktive Angebote aus den USA. Mit privaten Mitteln gelang es, Hänsch bis zum Jahr 2011 am Max-Planck-Institut für Quantenoptik in Garching zu halten.
• exzellente Otto-Hahn-Stipendiaten der Max-Planck-Gesellschaft die Möglichkeit erhalten, nach der Promotion an ausländischen Einrichtungen zu arbeiten und danach eine Forschungsgruppe in Deutschland aufzubauen. Die Exzellenz-Stiftung zur Förderung der Max-Planck-Gesellschaft finanziert den Einstieg in das Programm.

when people visit one of spreadshirts manufacturing sites, they are often surprised. they expected a big machine, somebody pressing a few buttons and a customized shirts to emerge. instead they find real manufacturing. real people taking real apparel from shelves (hard till impossible to replace with robots at a competitive price with nowadays tech), real people prepering the designs, real people pressing the shirts, real people doing quality control and packaging.

to show the people how much real work & dedication is involved to make a t-shirt we created a small video (in cooperation with zucker communication. cooperation means, that they did most of the work, creative as well as the video craftmansship).
